Home Schooling Your Children

The educational system in the United States has taken a turn for the worse. People are facing the uneven choices of paying for an excellent private school that they cant really afford, or sending their child to a public school that has lower standards of education. Of course, most parents who fear the public school systems want to put their children in the private schools, but the cost of tuition is prohibitive. Many parents are turning to a third and socially unaccepted method of educating their children.

There has been a resurgent interest in homeschooling recently. Many parents are deciding that they are more capable of teaching their students than the United States government, or perhaps they feel that their children would suffer from the structure of education in Americas schools. Whatever the reasons, people are finding plenty of them to home school their kids.

Although homeschooling is legal in most states, it still suffers from a social stigma. People who grew up in public school systems feel threatened by the idea that there might be a better way to do things, or that somebody would go through all of that trouble to avoid doing something that worked fine for them. There are also misconceptions concerning the curriculum, and socialization of kids that are homeschooled. The parents control the curriculum for homeschooled students. They dont have to pass any state tests, unless the state requires it. The parents are also in charge of the socialization of their children. It sounds like there is too much control given to the parents, but who is better suited to caring about their children in that way?

Homeschooled children are often more mature and better rounded individuals. They usually go into their college careers better prepared, and often times earlier than their publicly schooled counterparts. There shouldnt be a stigma attached to homeschooling it is as legitimate of a choice as public school.
