There seems to be an uprising of annoying, bratty kids. These kids arent to blame for their actions; they are simply products of the parents who are raising them. These parents dont try to teach their kids manners, because they are too busy trying to ensure that they are happy and comfortable. They, and the world around them, would be happier if these kids could learn to behave.

When parents take their children out in public, it is their duty to ensure that their children behave. The only people who can control what children do are the parents. If they refuse to do that and the children run wild in a public place, then the parents should be held accountable for any damage, be it broken merchandise, or messes that need to be cleaned up. If the parents want the children to learn respect for other people and their belongings than they are going to have to tell them that these things deserve respect.

The idea that kids shouldnt be disciplined is flawed. Kids need some form of structure in their lives, and some times that structure needs to be from a firm voice or a punishment that you follow through with. Teaching your children to say please, thank you, and your welcome and insisting that they are consistent with it isnt going to do anything to their precious little egos except make sure that they are pleasant to be around and therefore will have more friends. Even other kids dont like to be around whiny demanding kids.

Most parents today dont seem to know where to draw the line, or how to back up what they say. If you have to threaten a kid to leave a store more than once you are doing it wrong. They are going to keep acting up because they know mommy or daddy arent going to do anything they say. Reversely, if your kids is ripping down displays, screaming, or whining and you havent made the threat to leave the store, or punish the child, then you are doing it wrong also.
